The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, inaugurated a 13‑member think‑tank committee to drive the implementation of his five‑point policy for the scheme. Speaking at the inauguration on Wednesday, the DG reaffirmed his commitment to elevate the programme through innovative measures.
Ahmed tasked the committee to collaborate with all departments at the National Directorate Headquarters in Abuja, the NYSC Area Offices, and other scheme structures, as well as to liaise with various NYSC stakeholders to actualise the policy’s mandate. He urged members to approach their new assignment with diligence, emphasizing that they were selected on merit. “I expect you to review the scheme’s past achievements and challenges and propose modalities for improvement,” he said.
The focal points of the Director General’s policy include improving the security and welfare of corps members and staff, ensuring optimal service delivery to the nation, creating an enabling environment for research and development, and strengthening stakeholder engagement to expand the scheme’s frontiers. Additional objectives are enhancing capacity building to boost efficiency and corporate performance, and deepening the impact of the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme.
Committee Chairman Mr Omotade Ayodele, who also serves as Director of Corps Welfare and Health Services, responded by pledging that the committee would do everything possible to achieve the Director General’s policy thrust.
