Zamfara Governor Attends Strategic Governance Workshop UK

Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State will attend a high-level international workshop on strategic governance and institutional resilience at Coventry University in the United Kingdom on March 30 and 31, 2026.

The two-day event is organised by the university’s Centre for Resilient Business and Society and supported by the United Kingdom Research and Innovation Institutional Support framework. According to a statement from the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala-Idris, the participation is part of Zamfara State’s ongoing efforts to enhance governance and institutional capacity through research-driven strategies.

Governor Lawal will depart for the UK on Sunday, joining global scholars, policymakers, and experts to explore practical approaches for building resilient institutions and tackling complex societal challenges. Workshop sessions will address resilient leadership in resource-constrained settings, financial resilience, public sector innovation, change management, and the ethical use of data in governance.

The governor will be accompanied by a high-level state delegation, including the Secretary to the State Government, commissioners, special advisers, and the Executive Secretary of the Zamfara Information Technology Development Agency.

A key component of the programme is an interactive session with postgraduate researchers titled “The Role of Research in Policymaking: Driving Strategic and Resilient Governance – Lessons from the Six-Point Rescue Agenda.” This session will examine how academic research can be translated into actionable policy with measurable outcomes, drawing directly from Zamfara’s development framework.

The state’s engagement underscores its commitment to integrating data and research into governance processes, particularly to advance its Six-Point Rescue Agenda. This agenda prioritises security and peacebuilding, agriculture, healthcare, education, infrastructure, and economic empowerment. The collaboration with international institutions like Coventry University reflects a mutual focus on promoting sustainable development and strengthening public sector performance in Zamfara.

This workshop provides a platform for Zamfara State to share its experiences while adopting global best practices, linking local policy challenges with international academic insight to foster more resilient governance structures.
