Oyo State gubernatorial hopefuls from the All Progressives Congress (APC) have reaffirmed their commitment to unseat the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2027 general elections. The aspirants made the pledge during a closed-door meeting with former First Lady Florence Ajimobi in Ibadan, the state capital, on Tuesday.
According to sources at the gathering, the meeting was attended by several high-profile APC figures, including Senator Sharafadeen Alli, Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu, former Senate Leader Senator Teslim Folarin, and Senator Abdulfatai Buhari, who represents Oyo North. Other attendees included Aderemi Oseni, Barrister Akeem Agbaje, and other APC gubernatorial aspirants.
The former First Lady, who spearheaded the meeting, urged the aspirants and other party stakeholders to put aside individual ambitions and work towards a united front. Attendees resolved to collaborate closely in the interest of the party, with a clear focus on dislodging the PDP from power in the next electoral cycle.
A source at the meeting told Media Talk Africa that all participants pledged to work together to strengthen the party’s position ahead of 2027. “There was a meeting of gubernatorial aspirants on the platform of APC. It was attended by the former First Lady and the aspirants, along with other stakeholders of the party. They resolved to work together in order to dislodge the PDP in 2027,” the source said.
The meeting is seen as a strategic move to consolidate APC’s influence in Oyo State, where the PDP has maintained a strong foothold in recent years. Political analysts note that unity among aspirants will be crucial for the APC to mount a credible challenge in the next election.
