PENGASSAN Ends Strike at Seplat Energy After Management Assurances
Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has suspended its industrial action at Seplat Energy following commitments from the company’s management to address workers’ welfare concerns and conclude negotiations on the 2026 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
The suspension was announced in a notice to union members nationwide after constructive engagements between PENGASSAN, Seplat management, and stakeholders led by the Executive Vice President, Business Services at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
“Seplat Management has provided written commitments addressing the demands of the Association,” the union stated, citing productive discussions on the ongoing CBA negotiations.
The industrial action, which began on April 2, had disrupted operations at the energy firm. The union’s decision to halt the strike follows assurances that Seplat will address key welfare issues and expedite the conclusion of the collective bargaining process.
This development highlights the ongoing negotiations between labor unions and energy companies in Nigeria’s petroleum sector, where workers’ welfare and contractual agreements remain central to industrial relations.
The intervention of NNPCL in facilitating dialogue between the parties underscores the broader significance of maintaining operational stability in the country’s oil and gas industry, particularly amid efforts to attract investment and sustain production levels.
