Kano Governor Confirms Bilkisu Maimota as Head of Civil Service

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has officially confirmed Bilkisu Shehu Maimota as the substantive Head of Civil Service, a move interpreted as part of broader efforts to strengthen ongoing reforms within the state’s public service.

The confirmation was announced on Wednesday in a statement issued by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad. The timing coincided with a high-profile event marking the unveiling of the sixth tranche of payments to settle outstanding gratuities and death benefits owed to pensioners and families of deceased civil servants.

Observers note that the appointment aligns with the administration’s intensified push to clear inherited liabilities and restore confidence in the system. In recent months, the government has prioritized the settlement of long-standing entitlements, a strategy aimed at boosting morale among public sector workers.

Mrs Maimota had been serving in an acting capacity following the removal of former Head of Service Abdullahi Musa. Her swift elevation to substantive status is seen as a strong endorsement of her leadership and ability to steer the civil service through a period of transition.

Governor Yusuf tasked the new Head of Service with leveraging her experience to consolidate ongoing reforms and drive a more responsive and result-oriented public service. He emphasized the need for improved service delivery across ministries, departments, and agencies, in line with the administration’s broader governance objectives.

The governor expressed confidence that Mrs Maimota’s tenure would bring about tangible improvements in the operations of the state bureaucracy, particularly at a time when expectations from civil servants and the general public remain high.

Mrs Maimota’s appointment is expected to play a critical role in shaping the direction of administrative reforms in Kano State as the government continues its efforts to modernize the public sector and address systemic challenges.
