The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo‑Olu, expressed sympathy for the victims of Thursday morning’s train accident. The collision, which occurred around 7 a.m. in the PWD area, involved a passenger train that struck a Lagos State Government staff bus traveling from Ikotun to Alausa, the state secretariat. Two people were confirmed dead, and an unspecified number of others were injured.
In a message posted on his Twitter account, Sanwo‑Olu prayed for the families of the victims and praised the rescue teams. “I am deeply saddened by the news of the train/bus accident. The vehicle was conveying staff of the Lagos State Government, our staff who serve the state in different capacities. Let us pray for the families and ask for mercy and protection for our state. My thoughts are with the victims and their families during this difficult time. A big thank you to well‑meaning Lagosians who immediately joined the rescue efforts. Our first responders and emergency services are on the ground, and we will share more information shortly,” he wrote.
