The National leadership of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) has dispelled rumours that its governorship candidate in Kaduna State, Sani Sha’aban, is stepping down for another contender. The party emphasized that Sha’aban, who is also an in‑law of former President Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), remains the choice of the people of Kaduna to become their next governor.
In a statement issued in Kaduna on Thursday, ADP National Secretary Victor Fingesi urged party faithful and the citizens of the state to disregard the false reports and “see it for the fake news it is.” He called on eligible voters to turn out in large numbers to support the party’s candidate on election day.
The statement read, in part: “The National Secretariat of our great party, the Action Democratic Party (ADP), has observed with dismay the malicious and mischievous rumour circulating about a purported alliance or merger involving our party, or about our Kaduna governorship candidate stepping down or supporting another party’s candidate. This rumour is undoubtedly intended to malign the good name of our party and its candidate ahead of the Saturday, March 18, 2023, governorship election.”
The party affirmed that Hon. Sani Sha’aban remains the candidate to beat in the polls and condemned the attempts by certain political players to discredit him or create confusion. “Sha’aban is in the governorship race to win and will not step down for any other candidate,” the statement continued. “We categorically state that Hon. Sani Sha’aban has not withdrawn, nor has he asked his supporters to align with any other governorship candidate.”
Finally, the ADP reiterated that Hon. Sani Sha’aban is still the ADP candidate for the Kaduna State governorship election on March 18, 2023, and urged all party members and the people of Kaduna to ignore the rumour and recognize it as fake news.
