President‑elect Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu sent a condolence message to the families of the victims of a collision between a train and a Lagos State staff bus in Ikeja. Reports indicate that at least six people died in the incident, while several others were injured and are receiving treatment at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja.
The president‑elect’s media aide, Tunde Rahman, relayed his remarks, in which Tinubu prayed for the souls of the deceased and pledged support for the victims. He said, “I offer my sincere condolences to the victims and families affected by the tragic incident involving a train and a bus in the Ikeja area of Lagos State earlier today. I am praying for all, including those who died and those who sustained injuries. My thoughts are with them and with the Lagos State Government, even as I continue to follow the emergency response efforts closely and offer support, where necessary, to ensure that survivors and others involved receive the best care.”
Earlier, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) attributed the accident to the recklessness of the staff bus driver. Adebayo Taofiq, Director of the Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, told The [Source] that the bus was fully loaded with state government staff, with some passengers standing. He said the driver should have waited for the train, noting that it was not yet 8 a.m. and there was no need to rush. “Two people have died and the train dragged the bus to an extent, while some people managed to jump out and others were trapped. We have rescued about 15 so far, but we cannot give an exact number,” he added.
