The Federal Government of Nigeria has launched the second cohort of its Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Programme, an initiative designed to equip young Nigerians with industry-relevant skills and foster job creation. The Federal Ministry of Education announced the opening of applications on Monday in Abuja through its Director of Press and Public Relations, Folasade Boriowo.
Minister of Education Dr Tunji Alausa stated that applications for the nationwide skills development programme began on April 13. He urged interested Nigerians to enrol, describing the initiative as a strategic intervention to strengthen technical capacity and tackle unemployment.
The TVET Programme aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, reflecting the administration’s commitment to expanding access to skills-based education and sustainable livelihoods. Dr Alausa emphasised that the government is investing in the productive capacity of youth through practical training and recognised certification, creating pathways for self-employment, innovation, and long-term economic growth.
The Ministry is collaborating with the Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture and Tourism to enhance training in creative and cultural trades, aiming to harness opportunities in Nigeria’s creative economy. The programme will provide six-month and one-year hands-on training in accredited centres across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Participants will receive a monthly stipend of N22,500 during the training period and will be awarded nationally recognised certification upon successful completion. Training areas include construction, information and communication technology, automotive technology, creative media, agriculture, fashion and garment production, cosmetology, tourism and hospitality, catering services, and leather works.
The Ministry stressed that applicants must demonstrate commitment to learning practical skills and maintain full participation throughout the training. Attendance will be monitored through biometric verification systems, and stipend payments will be tied strictly to compliance with attendance requirements. Prospective applicants are required to provide their National Identification Number (NIN) and Bank Verification Number (BVN) during registration.
Eligible Nigerians are encouraged to apply through the official TVET portal to take advantage of the opportunity to acquire market-relevant skills for self-reliance and economic productivity.
