Nigerian govt opens application for second phase of TVET program — Daily Nigerian

The Federal Government of Nigeria has launched the second cohort of its Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Programme, aimed at equipping young Nigerians with industry-relevant skills and promoting job creation. The Federal Ministry of Education announced the opening of applications on Monday in Abuja, as communicated by its Director of Press and Public Relations, Folasade Boriowo. Minister of Education Dr. Tunji Alausa revealed that applications for this nationwide skills development programme began on April 13. He encouraged interested Nigerians to enroll, describing the initiative as a strategic intervention to enhance technical capacity and address unemployment.

The TVET Programme is aligned with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, demonstrating the administration’s commitment to expanding access to skills-based education and promoting sustainable livelihoods. Dr. Alausa highlighted the government’s investment in the productive capacity of youth through practical training and recognized certification, which aims to create pathways for self-employment, innovation, and long-term economic growth. In collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture and Tourism, the Ministry seeks to enhance training in creative and cultural trades, tapping into the opportunities within Nigeria’s creative economy.

The programme will offer six-month and one-year hands-on training in accredited centres across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Participants will receive a monthly stipend of N22,500 during their training and will be awarded nationally recognized certification upon successful completion. Training areas include construction, information and communication technology, automotive technology, creative media, agriculture, fashion and garment production, cosmetology, tourism and hospitality, catering services, and leather works.

The Ministry emphasized that applicants must demonstrate a commitment to learning practical skills and maintain full participation throughout the training. Attendance will be monitored through biometric verification systems, and stipend payments will be strictly tied to compliance with attendance requirements. Prospective applicants are required to provide their National Identification Number (NIN) and Bank Verification Number (BVN) during registration. Eligible Nigerians are encouraged to apply through the official TVET portal to seize the opportunity to acquire market-relevant skills for self-reliance and economic productivity.
