Tambuwal Alleges Nigeria Budget Diversion for Vote-Buying 2023-2025

Nigeria’s national budgets for the past three years have not been implemented, according to Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, who represents Sokoto South. Speaking during the ADC Congress in Sokoto on Saturday, the former Sokoto State governor alleged that funds appropriated for the 2023, 2024, and 2025 budgets were diverted for vote-buying purposes.

“I’m a senator, and honestly, all the budgets we passed in 2023, 2024 and 2025 have not been actualised. Where is the money? It has been diverted so they can buy votes,” Tambuwal claimed in a video that has since gone viral on social media. He did not provide evidence to support his allegations.

Tambuwal also accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of exacerbating insecurity, poverty, and hunger across the country. “I believe Nigerians have seen what Bola Ahmed Tinubu can deliver, if anything has been delivered at all,” he said. “This administration has only brought more insecurity, poverty and hunger.”

The senator further alleged mismanagement and diversion of public resources, warning that such funds could be used to influence voters ahead of the 2027 general elections. His remarks have sparked debate about fiscal accountability and governance in Nigeria, though the presidency has not yet responded to the allegations.

Tambuwal’s claims come amid ongoing concerns over budget implementation and transparency in Nigeria, where delays and underfunding of key projects have been persistent issues. The senator’s statements are likely to fuel further scrutiny of the federal government’s handling of public finances as the country approaches the next electoral cycle.
