The Abia State government has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Mr. Kelechi Ejiofor, a truck driver who was shot by a soldier at Uratta Timber Market in Aba. Reports indicate that Ejiofor succumbed to his injuries on Monday while receiving treatment at a hospital in the city.

In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, the state government confirmed that it is actively engaging with the military high command to ensure a thorough, transparent, and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The statement assured the family of the deceased and the general public that justice will not only be pursued but will also be seen to be done.

The government emphasized that any officer found culpable will face the full weight of disciplinary and legal consequences. It urged residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and peaceful as efforts intensify to uncover the facts of the incident. Reaffirming its commitment to the protection of lives and property, the rule of law, and the fundamental rights of every citizen, the Abia State government called for restraint and cooperation from the public during the ongoing investigation.

This incident has drawn attention to the tensions between military personnel and civilians in the region, highlighting the need for accountability and transparency in such cases. The outcome of the investigation is expected to provide clarity and determine the next steps in addressing this tragic event.
