Ekiti State security agencies launched “Operation Comb the Bush” on Monday as part of their intensified efforts to enhance safety and prevent criminal activities throughout the state. The operation commenced with a joint briefing at the Police Headquarters in Ado Ekiti and involves personnel from various security organizations, including the military, police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Department of State Services (DSS), Amotekun Corps, and other security outfits. This coordinated initiative aims to clear criminal hideouts, conduct visibility policing, and raid identified flashpoints, particularly in border communities.
During the address to the joint patrol team, Commissioner of Police Mr. Falade Adegoroye explained that the initiative was prompted by intelligence reports indicating an increase in security offensives against criminal elements in neighboring states such as Kwara, Kogi, Ondo, and Osun, as well as parts of northern Nigeria. He cautioned that the pressure on criminal groups in these areas might drive them to seek refuge in the South-West, thereby posing potential threats to Ekiti State. Adegoroye characterized the operation as a proactive measure to safeguard lives and property, emphasizing its role in preventing crimes such as kidnapping, cattle rustling, vandalism, and attacks on public infrastructure and places of worship.
The police chief also highlighted the importance of protecting farmers returning to their fields with the onset of the rainy season. He noted that the operation would create a secure environment for agricultural activities by denying criminal elements access to forests and rural settlements. Adegoroye urged officers to demonstrate discipline, professionalism, and respect for human rights, assuring residents that the operation would be conducted responsibly and in accordance with global best practices.
Additionally, the police commissioner commended Governor Biodun Oyebanji for prioritizing security and consistently providing logistical and operational support to security agencies. He stated that the governor’s commitment has significantly strengthened the fight against crime and ensured the safety of lives and property across the state. Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, Brig. Gen. Ebenezer Ogundana (rtd), described the operation as part of the governor’s broader strategy to maintain peace and security in Ekiti. He noted that the administration has invested in intelligence gathering, inter-agency collaboration, and logistical support for security outfits.
Ogundana assured residents that the Oyebanji administration would remain steadfast in its commitment to keeping Ekiti safe, secure, and conducive for economic activities and peaceful coexistence. He also encouraged citizens to support security agencies by providing credible information to enhance the effectiveness of the operation.
