New NSCDC Commandant Abbas Mohammed Assumes Duty in Kwara State

Abbas Nda Mohammed has assumed duty as the 16th commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State Command, succeeding Bala Bodinga Bawa, who has been redeployed to the national headquarters in Abuja.

Bawa had served in the role for just over a month before his transfer. Mohammed, a seasoned security professional with more than two decades of experience in the Corps, brings a wealth of operational expertise to his new position. His career includes leadership roles at Zone 4 Headquarters in Minna, where he most recently served as commandant, as well as positions such as Head of Operations for the Kwara State Command, Head of the Anti-Vandal Unit in Niger State, Area Commander in Kainji Local Government Area, Divisional Officer in Edati LGA, and Head of the Counter-Terrorism Unit in Zamfara State. He has also held various leadership responsibilities within the Federal Capital Territory Command.

Shortly after taking office, Commandant Mohammed reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to protecting lives and property, safeguarding critical national assets and infrastructure, and enhancing intelligence-driven operations across Kwara State. He issued a stern warning to criminal elements, vandals, and economic saboteurs, declaring that the state would not tolerate such activities and that the command would employ proactive and decisive measures to combat all forms of criminality.

“Kwara State will not be a safe haven for criminals. We are fully prepared to deploy all necessary operational strategies to ensure the safety and security of lives and property,” Mohammed stated.

The new commandant also pledged to strengthen collaboration with sister security agencies, traditional institutions, and other relevant stakeholders to sustain peace and security in the state. His appointment comes at a time when the NSCDC is intensifying efforts to address security challenges and protect critical infrastructure nationwide.
