Paul Onuachu is set to return to training with Trabzonspor on Thursday, just days before the club’s crucial Turkish Super Lig fixture against Istanbul Başakşehir, according to reports from Media Talk Africa.
The Nigerian striker was absent from Trabzonspor’s 1-1 draw against Alanyaspor last weekend after sustaining a left thigh injury during the team’s final training session ahead of that match. Onuachu felt discomfort in his thigh muscle, prompting immediate medical attention.
Following an MRI scan, Turkish sports outlet Fanatik reported that no serious damage was detected, raising hopes for a swift recovery. The medical team has since cleared him to resume training, with expectations that he will be available for selection in Saturday’s match against Istanbul Başakşehir.
Onuachu has been in outstanding form this season, emerging as the leading scorer in the Turkish Super Lig with 22 goals. His absence against Alanyaspor was keenly felt, as Trabzonspor struggled to break down their opponents without his aerial presence and clinical finishing.
The 30-year-old forward joined Trabzonspor in 2023 after a successful stint with Genk in Belgium, where he became known for his physical prowess and goal-scoring instincts. His impact in Turkey has been immediate, making him a key figure in the club’s attack and a fan favourite.
Trabzonspor currently sits in a strong position in the league table, and Onuachu’s return could prove vital as they push for silverware in the closing stages of the season. His availability against Istanbul Başakşehir will be a significant boost, especially given the importance of maintaining momentum in their title challenge.
Medical staff will monitor his progress closely throughout the week to ensure he is fully fit for the weekend’s encounter. With Onuachu back in contention, Trabzonspor will be hopeful of securing a positive result against a competitive Istanbul Başakşehir side.
