Senator Sharafadeen Alli Declares 2027 Oyo Governorship Bid

Senator Sharafadeen Alli has formally declared his intention to run for governor of Oyo State in the 2027 general elections. The All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain made the announcement during a large gathering at the Police Field in Yemetu, Ibadan North local government area, on Friday.

Alli, who currently represents Oyo South Senatorial District, emphasized that his decision to seek the state’s highest office stems from a vision to advance Oyo State’s development. He highlighted his extensive political background, including his tenure as Chairman of Ibadan North local government and Secretary to the Oyo State Government under Senator Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja. As a serving senator, Alli said he has consistently advocated for the interests of his constituents.

The declaration event drew thousands of APC leaders, members, and prominent political figures. Attendees included Senator Yunus Akintunde (Oyo Central), several House of Representatives members, and notable party stalwarts such as former Deputy Governor Iyiola Oladokun, Asiwaju Yemi Aderibigbe, and Alhaji Fatai Ibikunle.

Alli’s announcement positions him as a key contender in what is expected to be a competitive APC gubernatorial primary. His experience in both local and state governance, combined with his legislative record, forms the foundation of his campaign message.

Political analysts note that the 2027 Oyo State governorship race is likely to attract multiple high-profile candidates from both the ruling APC and opposition parties. Alli’s formal entry into the race signals the beginning of intensified political activity in the state as aspirants begin to consolidate support ahead of the primaries.

The senator’s campaign is expected to focus on governance experience, grassroots engagement, and continuity of development initiatives. As the political landscape takes shape, stakeholders will be watching closely to see how Alli’s candidacy influences the dynamics within the APC and the broader electoral contest in Oyo State.
