Nick Foles: A.J. Brown wants to be traded

Nick Foles, the former quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles and Super Bowl LII MVP, has shared his thoughts on the ongoing speculation regarding star wide receiver A.J. Brown and his future with the team. In a recent interview with Jeff Skversky of Fox29 in Philadelphia, Foles suggested that Brown’s reported dissatisfaction may stem from frustrations with the offensive scheme during the 2024 season under then-offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo. He acknowledged that Brown’s frustrations could be justified, given the challenges posed by the offensive system at that time.

Foles indicated that the tension between Brown and the team might not be primarily due to his relationship with quarterback Jalen Hurts. Instead, he proposed that Brown’s desire to be traded is influenced by his preference for specific destinations. Notably, the New England Patriots have emerged as a likely fit, given Brown’s history with Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel and his reported affinity for the franchise.

Eagles general manager Howie Roseman has not publicly ruled out the possibility of trading Brown, which Foles interprets as a strategic move. He believes that Roseman is considering the impact of Brown’s potential unhappiness on the team’s dynamics, especially with first-year coordinator Sean Mannion now in place. Foles emphasized that Roseman is likely focused on finding a resolution that benefits both Brown and the organization.

Initially, Foles estimated an 80% chance that Brown would remain with the Eagles; however, he has since revised his assessment to a near 50-50 proposition. He predicts that if a trade does occur, it will likely take place before the start of the 2025 season, with the Patriots being strong contenders for Brown’s services. The timing of any potential trade may depend on the NFL’s post-June 1 deadline, which would allow the Eagles to manage salary cap implications more favorably. There is also speculation that the Eagles and Patriots may have already reached a preliminary agreement, pending official announcements after the NFL Draft. As the situation develops, the Eagles face critical decisions that could significantly influence their roster and offensive strategy for the upcoming season.
