Transfer: Onyeka to join Coventry City on permanent deal

Nigeria midfielder Frank Onyeka is poised to complete a permanent transfer to Coventry City following the Sky Blues’ promotion to the Premier League, as reported by Media Talk Africa. Coventry City confirmed their return to the English top-flight on Friday night after a hard-fought 1-1 draw with Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park. This result secured their place among the elite after a 25-year absence from the Premier League.

Onyeka initially joined Coventry on loan from Brentford in January, with a pre-agreed clause allowing for a permanent transfer contingent on the club achieving promotion. His arrival coincided with an upturn in form for Mark Robins’ side, and the 28-year-old has since made 11 league appearances for the former FA Cup winners. Before joining Coventry, Onyeka struggled to secure regular first-team opportunities at Brentford, which prompted his loan move to the Midlands club. Additionally, he spent the previous season on loan with Bundesliga side FC Augsburg, where he gained valuable experience in Germany’s top division.

The permanent signing of Onyeka is expected to be finalized in the coming days as Coventry prepares for their Premier League return. His addition will bolster the squad with proven top-flight experience, both domestically and internationally. This transfer marks another significant step in Coventry’s resurgence under Robins, who has overseen the club’s steady climb back to the Premier League after years spent in the lower leagues. With promotion secured, the focus now shifts to reinforcing the squad in anticipation of the challenges that lie ahead in England’s top tier.
