Nigeria midfielder Frank Onyeka is set to complete a permanent transfer to Coventry City after the Sky Blues secured promotion to the Premier League, Media Talk Africa reports.
Coventry City confirmed their return to the English top-flight on Friday night following a hard-fought 1-1 draw with Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park. The result ensured their place among the elite after a 25-year absence from the Premier League.
Onyeka joined Coventry on loan from Brentford in January, with a pre-agreed clause to make the move permanent should the club achieve promotion. His arrival coincided with an upturn in form for Mark Robins’ side, and the 28-year-old has since made 11 league appearances for the former FA Cup winners.
The midfielder had struggled for regular first-team opportunities at Brentford, prompting the loan switch to the Midlands club. Prior to that, he spent the previous season on loan with Bundesliga side FC Augsburg, gaining valuable experience in Germany’s top division.
Onyeka’s permanent signing is expected to be finalised in the coming days as Coventry prepare for their Premier League return. His addition would bolster the squad with proven top-flight experience, both domestically and internationally.
The Nigeria international’s transfer represents another step in Coventry’s resurgence under Robins, who has overseen the club’s steady climb back to the Premier League after years in the lower leagues. With promotion secured, attention now turns to squad reinforcement ahead of the challenges of England’s top tier.
