Political associate Ibrahim Abdulkarim has asserted that former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso has agreed to serve as running mate to Peter Obi in the 2027 presidential election. Speaking on Trust TV, Abdulkarim said discussions between the Obidient and Kwankwassiyya movements have advanced to the point of a formal agreement.
“We all know that,” Abdulkarim stated. “Both the Obidients and the Kwankwassiyya Movements are aware of the agreement. I can categorically tell you that they have agreed.”
The claim comes in the wake of Kwankwaso’s recent defection from the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC). His move has fueled speculation about a potential alliance with Obi, a former Anambra State governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate.
Political analysts note that such a pairing could unite support from Obi’s southeastern base and Kwankwaso’s northern following, creating a formidable coalition for the 2027 race. Both leaders have yet to issue official statements confirming or denying the arrangement.
Observers say the development, if confirmed, would mark a significant realignment in Nigeria’s opposition politics ahead of the next election cycle.
