Political associate Ibrahim Abdulkarim has claimed that former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso has agreed to serve as the running mate to Peter Obi in the upcoming 2027 presidential election. During an appearance on Trust TV, Abdulkarim revealed that discussions between the Obidient and Kwankwassiyya movements have progressed to the point of a formal agreement. “We all know that,” he stated, emphasizing that both movements are aware of this arrangement. “I can categorically tell you that they have agreed.”
This announcement follows Kwankwaso’s recent defection from the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which has sparked speculation about a potential alliance with Obi, the former governor of Anambra State and the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate. Political analysts suggest that such a partnership could effectively unite support from Obi’s southeastern base with Kwankwaso’s northern following, thereby creating a formidable coalition for the 2027 election.
As of now, both leaders have not issued any official statements to confirm or deny this arrangement. Observers note that if this development is confirmed, it would signify a significant realignment in Nigeria’s opposition politics as the country approaches the next election cycle.
