In a vibrant show of political solidarity, the Oshimili South chapter of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially endorsed former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi as its consensus presidential candidate for the 2027 general election. The endorsement took place during the party’s primaries for presidential, senatorial, House of Representatives, and House of Assembly positions across the Delta North Senatorial District.
Thousands of party faithful and supporters converged at Anglican Girls Grammar School in Asaba, where delegates overwhelmingly adopted Obi through a voice vote, positioning him as the party’s flag bearer for the upcoming presidential race. The event underscored a growing grassroots movement for change, with many attendees expressing hope for a new direction in Nigerian politics.
Speaking to journalists, Delta North senatorial aspirant and former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Engr. Victor Ochei, praised the massive turnout, attributing it to effective mobilization by party aspirants and the increasing desire among Nigerians for transformative leadership. Ochei emphasized that the NDC is well-equipped to challenge established political parties in 2027, as citizens seek a government committed to good governance, improved living standards, and restored hope.
“The quest for positive change, improved leadership, and people-oriented governance will be the cornerstone of our campaign,” Ochei stated. He also addressed concerns about electoral integrity, noting that voters are now more determined than ever to protect their ballots. “In the past, perhaps, people’s votes did not count, but today people will rather have you kill them than not count their votes. Their votes must count. After voting, we will follow the process through to the INEC office to ensure transparency and credibility in the collation and declaration of results.”
As of the time of reporting, results from 98 wards across the nine local government areas of Delta North were still being collated for transmission to the party’s national headquarters for final announcement.
