APGA to Use Option A4 for 2027 Primaries, Bans Multi-Position Aspirants

Anambra State Governor and APGA National Leader Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has issued a directive to party leaders and members, outlining strict new guidelines for the conduct of the party’s forthcoming primary elections.

Speaking at the South-East zonal convention of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) held at the International Convention Centre in Awka on Saturday, Soludo announced that the party will adopt Option A4 for its 2027 election primaries. He said the move is aimed at eliminating rigging, enhancing transparency, and curbing the waste of resources through vote-buying.

“Let me be clear—many of you see politics and party membership as a business venture,” Soludo told the gathering. “Some of you are waiting for this political season to raise money—maybe to buy shuttle buses or meet other personal needs. But we cannot allow this period to be business as usual.”

He explained that the Option A4 system—where voters queue behind the candidate of their choice—will allow aspirants to see in real time whether they are winning or losing, reducing the influence of bribery and secret ballot manipulation.

“We want aspirants to save their resources for the main election against opponents from other parties, not spend everything during the primaries,” he said.

Soludo also declared that the party will no longer tolerate candidates running for more than one position. “If you want to run for governor, make up your mind. We will not accept someone holding one seat while vying for another,” he said. He warned that such behaviour often results in divided attention and misuse of office for campaign financing.

He further prohibited aspirants from visiting state executive members at home to offer bribes, insisting that all official meetings must take place at the party office.

Earlier, APGA National Chairman Barr. Sly Ezeokenwa read out a detailed code of conduct for members, echoing Soludo’s commitment to cleaning up the party’s internal processes.

The governor’s directives signal a decisive shift toward stricter internal democracy and financial discipline within APGA as it prepares for the 2027 general elections.
