Soludo reads riot act to APGA members, adopts option A4 for primaries

Anambra State Governor and APGA National Leader, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has issued a directive to party leaders and members, outlining strict new guidelines for the conduct of the party’s upcoming primary elections. Speaking at the South-East zonal convention of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) held at the International Convention Centre in Awka on Saturday, Soludo announced that the party will adopt Option A4 for its 2027 election primaries. This decision aims to eliminate rigging, enhance transparency, and curb the waste of resources through vote-buying.

Soludo emphasized the seriousness of this initiative, stating, “Let me be clear—many of you see politics and party membership as a business venture.” He expressed concern that some members might be waiting for the political season to raise money for personal needs, such as purchasing shuttle buses. He insisted that this period cannot be business as usual. The Option A4 system, where voters queue behind their preferred candidate, will allow aspirants to see in real time whether they are winning or losing, thereby reducing the influence of bribery and secret ballot manipulation. “We want aspirants to save their resources for the main election against opponents from other parties, not spend everything during the primaries,” he added.

Additionally, Soludo declared that the party will no longer tolerate candidates running for more than one position. “If you want to run for governor, make up your mind. We will not accept someone holding one seat while vying for another,” he stated. He warned that such behavior often leads to divided attention and the misuse of office for campaign financing. Furthermore, he prohibited aspirants from visiting state executive members at home to offer bribes, insisting that all official meetings must occur at the party office.

Earlier in the convention, APGA National Chairman Barr. Sly Ezeokenwa read a detailed code of conduct for members, reinforcing Soludo’s commitment to cleaning up the party’s internal processes. These directives signal a decisive shift toward stricter internal democracy and financial discipline within APGA as it prepares for the 2027 general elections.
