APC Lagos Warns Against Early Aspirant Endorsements

Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has cautioned its members against early endorsement of aspirants ahead of upcoming party primaries, describing such actions as unauthorized and potentially divisive.

In a statement issued on April 19, 2026, the state chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, said the party leadership had received reports of some local government chairmen publicly presenting certain individuals as “consensus candidates” for elective positions. He stressed that these actions violate the party’s principles of internal democracy, fairness, and due process.

According to the party, no official guidelines, timetable, or directives have been released for the conduct of primaries in Lagos. As such, any attempt to endorse or project aspirants at this stage is considered premature and misleading.

The APC warned that such activities could create unnecessary tension, foster suspicion, and deepen divisions within party ranks at a time when unity is critical. It added that disciplinary measures would be taken against any official who continues to engage in what it described as “unauthorized and destabilizing acts.”

The party leadership also reassured members that all qualified aspirants would be given a fair and level playing field, free from intimidation or undue influence.

It reiterated its commitment to upholding transparency, equity, and credible internal democratic processes. Party officials expected to oversee the primaries were urged to remain neutral in order to preserve the integrity, cohesion, and credibility of the party.
