The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has released a provisional timetable and schedule of activities for the party’s primary elections, which will determine its candidates for the 2027 general election. This announcement was made by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Ejimofor Opara. The timetable is designed to align with the revised schedule issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on February 26, 2026, and adheres to APGA’s 2019 constitution as well as the Electoral Act 2026.
The primary election process will commence with the purchase and return of expression of interest forms, which will be available from April 20 to May 8. Following this, the screening of aspirants is scheduled for May 11 for National Assembly positions, May 12 for State House of Assembly candidates, and May 13 for gubernatorial aspirants. The party has specified that expression of interest forms will be sold separately to aspirants, who must successfully pass the screening stage to be eligible to purchase nomination forms. These nomination forms will be available from May 14 to May 21.
The fees for the expression of interest forms are set at N25 million for the presidential ticket, N6 million for Senate candidates, N4 million for House of Representatives aspirants, N10 million for governorship positions, and N2 million for State House of Assembly seats. APGA’s primary elections are scheduled to take place on May 23, 2026, utilizing the Option A4 method for the voting process. Any appeals arising from the primaries will be addressed on May 28, 2026.
This announcement comes in preparation for the 2027 general election and reflects APGA’s commitment to streamlining its candidate selection process in accordance with national electoral guidelines. Additionally, the party’s South-East regional convention, held in Awka on Saturday, reaffirmed these arrangements and emphasized the importance of transparency and adherence to due process throughout the primaries.
