Former Inspector-General of Police Mohammed Abubakar Adamu has reaffirmed his intention to contest the Nasarawa State governorship election in 2027, despite Governor Abdullahi Sule’s endorsement of Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada as the preferred candidate.
Speaking to supporters, Adamu dismissed speculation that he might defect from the All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting his loyalty to the party remains unchanged. “When someone endorses a candidate, that shows who he wants. He has the right to do that, but he does not have the right to decide the future of Nasarawa for everyone,” Adamu said. “People are saying I will change party because of this. That is not true. We are not going anywhere. We are in APC, and we will remain in APC.”
The former police chief stressed that he is fully prepared to contest and will stay in the race until the end. “I will contest till the end, and by the grace of God, we will get victory,” he said. “Go back and tell our supporters that we are strong and united. In about one month, we are going for the primaries.”
Governor Sule had earlier declared his support for Senator Wadada and defended his position in a statement issued by his media aide, maintaining that he has done nothing wrong in backing a preferred aspirant.
The unfolding contest highlights internal party dynamics ahead of the APC’s gubernatorial primaries, with multiple aspirants positioning themselves for the party’s ticket in what is expected to be a keenly contested race.
