Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has officially welcomed former governor and senator Malam Ibrahim Shekarau into the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the move as a significant boost to the party’s strength in the state.
In a statement issued in Kano by his Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad, Governor Yusuf said a formal reception date would be fixed in consultation with the national secretariat of the party. He emphasized that the APC in Kano State continues to enjoy growing support and consolidation, positioning itself as the dominant political force in the region.
The governor also reaffirmed the party’s readiness to win all elective positions in upcoming elections, citing unity and strategic alignments as key drivers of the APC’s confidence. He assured party members and supporters that leadership remains committed to strengthening internal cohesion and expanding the party’s grassroots base across the state.
Governor Yusuf called on APC faithful to remain steadfast and intensify mobilization efforts as the party prepares for future political contests.
Shekarau, a two-term former governor, announced his decision to join the APC while addressing supporters at his residence in Mundubawa, Kano, on Sunday. He said the decision followed wide consultations with his political group and careful consideration of several options.
“We took the decision after wide deliberations and weighing several options, which included joining the APC after realizing that the PDP is facing so many challenges,” Shekarau was quoted as saying. “We cannot align with the ADC, a party filled with people of personal interests, a party struggling to gain its feet.”
The development marks a significant political realignment in Kano State, with the APC solidifying its position ahead of future electoral battles.
