INEC Welcomes New Resident Electoral Commissioner for Ondo State

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the official assumption of duty by Dr. Mutiu Olaleke Agboke as the new Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Ondo State. The appointment was confirmed in a statement released on Monday by Adenike Tadese, the INEC Administrative Secretary in the state.

Dr. Agboke succeeds Oluwatoyin Babalola, who has been redeployed to Osun State. According to the statement, the new REC is the 21st to hold the position in Ondo State and brings a wealth of experience to the role.

A legal practitioner called to the Nigerian Bar in 2006, Dr. Agboke is described as a seasoned scholar and election management expert. He previously served as a member of the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) from 2012 to 2016. His tenure with INEC includes roles as REC in Ondo, Oyo, and Osun States, where he oversaw the 2019 and 2023 general elections.

The commission has expressed strong confidence in Dr. Agboke’s ability to uphold electoral integrity, emphasizing his reputation for transparency, professionalism, and fairness. INEC anticipates that his leadership will contribute to the conduct of credible, free, and fair elections in Ondo State.

The appointment comes at a critical time as preparations for future electoral cycles intensify across Nigeria. With his extensive background in election administration, Dr. Agboke is expected to play a pivotal role in ensuring the integrity and efficiency of the electoral process in Ondo State.
