APC Leaders in Ogun East Unanimously Endorse Governor Abiodun for 2027 Senate Bid
Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has received unanimous endorsement from party leaders and stakeholders in Ogun East Senatorial District as their consensus candidate for the 2027 senatorial election. The decision was formally announced during a well-attended gathering at Adeola Odutola Hall in Ijebu-Ode on Monday.
The event drew a broad coalition of All Progressives Congress (APC) representatives from across the district, including members of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), former and serving local government chairmen, current and past lawmakers at both state and national levels, councillors from all wards, and leaders of women and youth groups. In total, all 103 councillors from the nine local governments in Ogun East participated, alongside ward chairmen, local government executives, and members of the Elders Advisory Council.
Former Ogun East Senator Lekan Mustapha, speaking on behalf of the stakeholders, said the endorsement reflects a shared conviction that Governor Abiodun possesses the leadership qualities and political experience necessary to represent the district effectively at the federal level. He confirmed that party leaders would formally communicate the decision to the governor and pledged to cover the costs of his nomination forms when the time comes.
“This endorsement is historic and unanimous,” said Secretary to the State Government Tokunbo Talabi. “It reflects the collective belief that Prince Dapo Abiodun is the right person for the position.” Talabi highlighted the governor’s record in fostering party unity and delivering development projects across the state as key factors behind the decision.
House of Representatives member Femi Ogunbanwo, who represents Odogbolu, Ijebu-Ode, and Ijebu North East Federal Constituency, noted that the governor’s administration has brought relative peace and measurable progress to the state. He expressed confidence that Abiodun’s presence in the Senate would help attract more federal resources and democratic dividends to Ogun East.
Sagamu Local Government Chairman Afolabi Odulate commended the governor’s performance in office and reiterated the district’s collective appeal for him to accept the senatorial nomination.
The gathering was attended by prominent APC figures, including former senators Gbenga Kaka and Lekan Mustapha, Ogun East APC Chairman Adedoyin Adeleke, and respected party elders such as Kola Ogunjobi, Bayo Dayo, Durojaye, Pegba Otemolu, James Dina, and Osibote Amoran. Also present were influential political mobilisers and grassroots leaders from across the district.
Members of the House of Representatives from Ogun East—Adesola Elegbeji, Joseph Adegbesan, and Femi Ogunbanwo—attended in solidarity, underscoring the widespread backing for the governor’s anticipated senatorial bid.
The endorsement positions Governor Abiodun as the party’s leading candidate to represent Ogun East in the Senate, pending his acceptance and formal declaration.
