Yul Edochie Backlash Over Peter Obi Criticism

Nollywood actor Yul Edochie is facing a wave of criticism from fans after posting a scathing remark about former Anambra State governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

In a Tuesday morning post on his official X account, Edochie declared Obi’s political ambitions “dead on arrival,” asserting that “any political party Peter Obi joins will scatter” and that his current alignment with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is futile. He suggested Obi’s presidential aspirations were doomed, adding, “It’s not a physical problem. It’s deeper than that,” and implying that Obi either doesn’t recognize or chooses to ignore this reality.

The actor’s comments quickly drew sharp backlash from followers, many of whom accused him of hypocrisy and irrelevance. One user, @okeygaruba, questioned his credibility given his recent personal controversies, while @obed-obinn labeled him a “prodigal son” and an “inconsequential piece of shit/garbage.” Others, like @JustusOnyia, advised him to focus on reviving his acting career rather than engaging in political commentary, and @deveyIcey2020 criticized him for undermining a fellow Igbo figure for political gain.

The controversy underscores the polarized political climate in Nigeria, where Obi remains a prominent opposition figure despite his 2023 presidential bid falling short. Edochie’s remarks have reignited debates about celebrity involvement in politics and the personal baggage that often accompanies public figures’ political statements.
