Yusuf Buhari Declares Bid for Katsina Federal Constituency Seat

Yusuf Buhari, son of former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, has formally declared his candidacy for the Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua Federal Constituency in Katsina State, ahead of the upcoming general elections. The announcement was made during a visit to Katsina State Governor Dr. Dikko Radda on Wednesday, according to former presidential media aide Bashir Ahmad.

Buhari, who will contest under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), stated that his decision followed extensive consultations with key stakeholders and political allies in Katsina State. The constituency, which includes the ancestral home of the Buhari family, has traditionally been a stronghold for the ruling party.

The move marks a significant political development, as Yusuf Buhari steps into the electoral arena following his father’s tenure as Nigeria’s president from 2015 to 2023. While the younger Buhari has largely maintained a low public profile, his candidacy is expected to draw considerable attention in the region.

Political analysts note that his entry into the race could influence voter dynamics in Katsina, particularly given the Buhari family’s longstanding influence in the state. The APC, which has dominated Katsina’s political landscape for years, is likely to leverage his candidacy to consolidate its support base.

The election for the House of Representatives seat is scheduled to take place as part of Nigeria’s general elections, with campaigns expected to intensify in the coming months. Yusuf Buhari’s campaign will likely focus on continuity of his father’s legacy and addressing local development needs in the constituency.

As the political season unfolds, all eyes will be on Katsina to see how this high-profile candidacy shapes the electoral contest in one of Nigeria’s most politically significant states.
