The Lagos State Task Force has denied reports that its agents are stationed around the Sheraton Link Bridge near Opebi and on Toyin Street to stop motorists making turns in those areas.
The claim, posted by an unidentified source, warned drivers to avoid turning at the specified locations, alleging that Task Force officials were lying in wait to arrest violators.
In a statement, Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, Director of Public Affairs for the Task Force, called the report “inaccurate and misleading.” He said the agency ceased traffic‑enforcement activities following a directive from Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Tijani, issued on 1 April 2026.
Abdulraheem clarified that recent operations have been confined to environmental enforcement and the apprehension of suspected criminals, not to traffic violations. “We have no personnel positioned to intercept motorists on the Sheraton Link Bridge or Toyin Street for traffic offences,” he wrote. “Any claims to the contrary are false.”
The public affairs officer urged residents and motorists to disregard the circulating rumors. He reaffirmed the Task Force’s commitment to lawful operations and to curbing criminal activity across Lagos State. Abdulraheem also warned that individuals impersonating Task Force officials or conducting unauthorized enforcement actions will be arrested and prosecuted.
The misinformation appears to have spread on social media platforms, prompting concerns among commuters about potential roadblocks and unwarranted stops. The Task Force’s clarification aligns with a broader police directive that temporarily halted traffic‑related checkpoints to reduce congestion and focus resources on crime prevention.
Authorities have not indicated any plan to resume traffic enforcement at the disputed sites. The Lagos State Police Command continues to advise motorists to follow standard traffic regulations and to report any suspicious activity to official channels.
