The Yobe State All Progressives Congress (APC) Critical Stakeholders’ Forum has named former Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Baba Malam Wali, its preferred candidate for the 2027 gubernatorial election, according to a statement released by the forum’s Director‑General of Press and Media Affairs.
The announcement follows a meeting of APC stakeholders held on Wednesday in Abuja. In the statement addressed to Governor Mai Mala Buni and former Deputy Governor Mamman Mohammed, the forum described Wali as a seasoned technocrat possessing the qualifications, patience and temperament required for effective leadership and governance.
Stakeholders highlighted Wali’s long‑standing involvement in various state administrations, noting that his experience positions him to maintain continuity of Yobe’s development agenda. The forum affirmed that the party will select its candidates through a consensus‑based election process, a decision reached at the stakeholders’ gathering last week.
Governor Buni and the forum’s chairman, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam, reiterated the party’s commitment to ongoing dialogue aimed at strengthening unity within the APC. The endorsement of Wali signals the party’s strategic move to present a unified front ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle.
The APC’s consensus‑driven approach and the selection of a former SSG underscore an emphasis on continuity and internal cohesion as Yobe State prepares for the upcoming gubernatorial contest. Further details on the party’s candidate selection timeline are expected as the election approaches.
