The Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, affirmed that the recently upgraded University of Ilesa is here to stay. Speaking in Ilesa on Friday to staff and students of the College of Education, he addressed concerns surrounding the university project. A statement from the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, noted that Adeleke, after completing an assessment tour of the university, reiterated his administration’s commitment to ensuring the institution’s proper take‑off.

Adeleke explained that the previous administration’s rush to upgrade the College of Education to a university was driven by political motives. He added, “I am here to assess the actual state of the University of Ilesa and engage with our people on moving Ijesha forward.” He said the committee he established to review the upgrade process has submitted its report, and his visit marks the final stage before issuing a white paper outlining the next steps.

Regarding the water project in Ilesa, Adeleke criticized the former APC government for mismanaging the initiative, noting that more than 12 billion naira had been spent with no results. He said the Ministry of Water Resources confirmed the project failed due to fraudulent activities by the contractor, and that the consultant allegedly demanded five million dollars from the state house committee on water resources. In response, a joint committee with the Ministry of Water Resources has been formed, and the contract will be re‑advertised after an out‑of‑court settlement with all stakeholders involved.
