Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah will miss this weekend’s match at Manchester United but is expected to return before the season ends, according to manager Arne Slot.
The Egyptian striker suffered a hamstring injury during Liverpool’s 2‑1 victory over Crystal Palace on Saturday. Slot confirmed on Friday that the problem is minor and that Salah will be available for selection later in the campaign, though not for the upcoming fixture.
“Usually he’s earlier fit than other players after a minor injury – because it is a minor injury – so we expect him indeed to be back in the final part of the season, but not for Sunday,” Slot said. “It’s a big relief that his injury is minor, so that he’s able to play for us, that he’s able to play at the World Cup. If there’s any time a player that deserves that kind of big send‑off, it’s definitely Mo.”
Salah announced in late March that he will leave Liverpool at the end of the 2025‑26 season, a year earlier than originally planned. The 33‑year‑old is completing his ninth season at Anfield. This will be his final campaign with the club.
The striker’s 2025‑26 season has been below his usual standards. After scoring 29 Premier League goals to win the Golden Boot last season, Salah has managed only seven league goals so far and has been involved in a public dispute with Slot over his role in the team.
Liverpool have four matches remaining, finishing on 24 May when Brentford visit Anfield. The club currently sit fourth in the Premier League, three points behind third‑place Manchester United, with both sides still in contention for a Champions League berth.
In addition to his club commitments, Salah will feature for Egypt at the FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Egypt are drawn in Group G and open the tournament against Belgium on 15 June, followed by matches against New Zealand and Iran. The nation has yet to win a World Cup game in its three previous appearances. Salah’s last World Cup involvement was in 2018, when a shoulder injury sustained weeks earlier in the Champions League final limited his impact.
Salah’s recovery timeline remains subject to medical assessment, but Liverpool expect him to contribute in the closing stages of the season and to be fit for the World Cup, providing a proper farewell to a player who has become a key figure for both club and country.
