Osun State police have dismissed reports that singer‑politician Adebayo David Adeleke, popularly known as B‑Red and son of Governor Ademola Adeleke, was the target of an assassination attempt.
The police clarified that the claim, which first appeared in a statement signed by the state Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, is “false, unverified and capable of causing unnecessary panic among the public.”
According to Police Public Relations Officer DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the incident in question was logged on 30 April 2026 at about 16:30 hours. The complainant, identified as Mr. Adebayo David Adeleke, reported being followed by a group of motorcyclists while driving through the Olaiya–Alekuwodo area of Osogbo. He said the riders pointed at his vehicle and repeatedly shouted references to him as “the Governor’s son.”
After passing a traffic light, a white Toyota Venza without a registration number and additional men on motorcycles allegedly continued to trail the vehicle. The complainant stated that he and his companions were able to leave the area and proceed safely to the Government House in Oke‑Fia, Osogbo, without suffering any physical attack or injury.
The police have forwarded the matter to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a discreet investigation. In a formal statement, the Osun State Police Command reiterated that the circulating report is unverified and warned that such misinformation could incite tension and public anxiety.
The clarification comes after the state government’s earlier announcement that B‑Red had escaped an assassination attempt in Oke‑Fia, Osogbo, on Wednesday. No further details have been released, and authorities have not indicated any imminent threat to the governor’s family.
The police’s denial underscores the need for verification of sensational claims, particularly those involving high‑profile political figures, and highlights ongoing efforts to maintain public order in Osun State.
