Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has urged newly sworn‑in Deputy Governor Murtala Garo to work diligently toward the state’s development. The governor’s admonition came immediately after Garo took the oath of office at Government House in Kano on Monday, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to translating the “dividends of democracy” into concrete policies and programmes that benefit Kano residents. He called on Garo to apply his experience in supporting government initiatives aimed at improving citizens’ welfare and accelerating socio‑economic progress.
In response, Deputy Governor Garo pledged to contribute his share to the growth and development of the state. He thanked Governor Yusuf for the confidence placed in him and expressed readiness to serve within the administration.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by senior political figures, including Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, former Kano governors Malam Ibrahim Shekarau and Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, and State House of Assembly Speaker Jibril Falgore, among others.
The hand‑over marks the continuation of Yusuf’s second‑term agenda, which focuses on infrastructure expansion, agricultural modernization, and youth empowerment. Garo’s appointment is expected to bolster these efforts, especially in areas where his prior experience aligns with the governor’s priorities.
Observers note that cohesive leadership between the governor and deputy governor will be critical for delivering on promised reforms before the next electoral cycle. The administration’s ability to implement its development plans will be closely watched by both local constituents and national stakeholders.
