Enugu PDP Chief Hails Turaki’s Re‑Election, Calls Party Reset

Enugu State PDP chairman Barr Steve Oruruo praised Kabiru Turaki’s re‑election as national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), calling it a “turning point” after a series of internal disputes.

Speaking to journalists after a return from Abuja, Oruruo said he had “unalloyed confidence” in Turaki’s ability to stabilise and reposition the party at a critical moment for Nigeria’s political landscape. “His dexterity and unwavering commitment are essential as the country seeks a nationally accepted party with proven credentials,” he added.

Oruruo also lauded the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT), headed by former Senate President Adolphus Wabara, for what he described as a “bold and principled” response to the crisis. He asserted that the BoT had acted united, untarnished by “any manipulations, even at the greatest risk of inducement or threat.”

Commenting on the Supreme Court ruling that split the PDP, Oruruo explained that while the Court nullified the Ibadan convention, it unanimously upheld the suspension of Senator Samuel Anyanwu and his supporters. “The decision effectively invalidates actions taken by the suspended faction. All acts carried out by those elements on behalf of the PDP are null and void,” he said, dismissing the rival leadership as “illegitimate” and describing the Abuja ‘Kirishi’ convention as a “farce.”

With the leadership dispute now resolved, Oruruo indicated that the PDP would resume its political activities nationwide. “Now that the BoT has acted in line with the Supreme Court judgment, the party is ready to issue interest and nomination forms to aspirants through the legitimate leadership, from national to sub‑national levels,” he noted.

The Enugu chairman called for a broader political reset in Nigeria, urging a shift toward people‑oriented governance. “We owe the Nigerian people a duty to recalibrate and reinvent the leadership model to reflect the electorate’s aspirations. We shall redirect the wheel of statecraft to encapsulate the will of the majority,” he concluded.
