Abuja infrastructure 95% ready before Tinubu anniversary

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has urged contractors to meet agreed timelines for a series of major infrastructure works in Abuja ahead of President Bola Tinubu’s third administration anniversary. The directive was issued during a site‑inspection tour that covered the Jahi‑Gwarinpa interchange, the Airport Road‑Kuje corridor, the Kuje‑Gwagwalada road, the City Gate development and the Wuse/Central Area link roads.

Wike praised the progress on the Jahi interchange, which is being constructed by CBC Global. “We are very hopeful that within the next two weeks we will reach more than 95 % completion,” the minister said, adding that the quality of work was commendable. He cautioned, however, that the bridge component still required close monitoring to avoid delays.

The Airport Road‑Kuje Junction, overseen by Arab Contractors, was described as nearing completion, provided the current pace is maintained. Similarly, the Kuje‑Gwagwalada road continues to advance steadily and remains on schedule, according to the minister.

The City Gate project, led by Julius Berger, was highlighted as a “landmark development” that will reshape the capital’s main entry point. “In the next month, anyone coming to Abuja will see a different landscape,” Wike noted, emphasizing that the project will incorporate 24‑hour security, surveillance cameras and AI‑enabled monitoring systems.

Wike stressed that all contractors must adhere to the government’s timetable, as several projects are slated for inauguration during the anniversary celebrations. In addition to the works already inspected, the administration plans to commission water‑treatment plants in Bwari and Ushafa, and road projects in Katampe, Gishiri and Gaduwa. Other slated inaugurations include sections of the Kuje‑Gwagwalada corridor, the Bazango and Kaura roads, and the relocation and development of the Apo mechanics site.

The minister reaffirmed the FCT administration’s commitment to the “Abuja transformation agenda,” urging continued cooperation with contractors to ensure timely delivery. “If Abuja residents require the best, then we are going to provide the best,” he said, concluding that the upcoming milestones will demonstrate the government’s focus on infrastructure and security ahead of the third anniversary of President Tinubu’s tenure.
