APC announces screening date for Senate, House of Rep aspirants

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has released the timetable for screening aspirants who intend to contest Senate and House of Representatives seats ahead of the party’s upcoming primary elections.

In a statement issued on Friday from the party’s headquarters in Abuja, APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka confirmed that the screening of Senate aspirants will be conducted on 9 and 10 May 2026. The two‑day exercise will take place at the Abuja Continental Hotel, formerly known as the Sheraton Hotel, and will commence each day at 10:00 a.m.

The same dates have been allocated for the screening of House of Representatives candidates. Those aspirants will gather at Treasures Suites and Conferences, also in Abuja, with sessions beginning at 10:00 a.m. on both days.

Applicants are instructed to arrive punctually and to bring all required documentation and credentials as stipulated in the party’s screening guidelines. Failure to comply with the submission requirements could result in disqualification from the primary contests.

The APC’s screening process is part of a broader internal competition designed to select party candidates for the 2027 general elections. The party, which has been the ruling coalition at the federal level since 2015, routinely conducts such vetting exercises to ensure that prospective nominees meet constitutional, legal, and party‑specific criteria. The screenings typically examine candidates’ educational qualifications, party loyalty, financial standing, and any pending legal issues.

By announcing a unified schedule for both Senate and House aspirants, the APC aims to streamline the pre‑primary phase and reduce logistical complexities. The decision to hold the screenings concurrently also reflects the party’s intent to maintain a synchronized timeline across its legislative contests, thereby facilitating smoother coordination of subsequent primary elections.

Stakeholders, including political analysts and civil society groups, will monitor the screenings for transparency and adherence to due process. The outcomes will shape the slate of APC candidates who will contest the Senate and House seats in the forthcoming primaries, which are expected to be held later in the year.

Aspiring candidates are advised to review the APC’s official guidelines and submit complete dossiers to avoid delays. The party has emphasized that the screenings are a mandatory prerequisite for participation in the primaries and, ultimately, the national electoral contest slated for 2027.
