The All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke vulnerable in the 2026 governorship election, citing what it describes as a weak administrative record. The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, made the assessment on Wednesday during an appearance on Arise Television’s “Prime Time” programme.
Morka argued that Adeleke’s performance in office has been “utterly defeatable,” characterising it as lacklustre and dismal. He specifically pointed to the Health and education sectors, which he said are in shambles, and asserted that the governor has become detestable to the electorate due to poor governance.
Expressing confidence in the APC’s prospects, Morka said the party’s candidate would benefit from widespread endorsement across the state. He emphasised that the outcome would ultimately be determined by a credible election conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which he noted is committed to fulfilling its legal mandate. Despite reports of violence, Morka predicted that Osun residents would turn out to exercise their franchise.
The Osun State governorship election is scheduled for August 15, 2026. The APC’s early offensive signals a competitive race ahead, with the ruling party seeking to reclaim the state after losing it to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2022. Analysts suggest the campaign will likely centre on governance records, infrastructure development, and the management of public services.
INEC has yet to release the official timetable for party primaries and other pre-election activities. Both major parties are expected to intensify mobilisation efforts in the coming months as the political temperature in the state rises.
