The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has appealed to women nationwide to mobilise support ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, party officials said on Sunday.

During a mobilisation meeting in Dutse, PRP chieftain Dr Maryam Ringim – who also serves as National Women Leader of YMK Nigeria – urged women to register with the party and to organise grassroots campaigns in their communities. Ringim highlighted women’s pivotal role in influencing electoral outcomes and called for increased participation in political activities.

“The party is committed to inclusive governance and to creating opportunities that empower women and youth across the country,” Ringim said. She emphasized that the PRP’s strategy for the upcoming primaries and the 2027 elections relies heavily on expanding its membership base, particularly among women and young people.

Ringim’s remarks come as the PRP prepares for internal primaries scheduled later this year, a process that will determine the party’s candidates for the national ballot. Party officials have indicated that intensified grassroots outreach and membership drives are central to their campaign strategy, aiming to consolidate support in key states ahead of the general election.

Analysts note that the PRP, a smaller opposition party, has historically struggled to secure significant representation in the National Assembly. By targeting women and youth, the party seeks to broaden its appeal and challenge the dominance of the ruling party in forthcoming polls.

The party’s call to action underscores a broader trend in Nigerian politics, where political groups are increasingly courting women voters, who constitute a substantial portion of the electorate. As the 2027 election cycle approaches, the effectiveness of the PRP’s mobilisation efforts will be a key indicator of its capacity to compete nationally.
