Nigeria will host the 2026 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Awards ceremony and the 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly. President Bola Tinubu confirmed the dual hosting arrangement during a meeting with CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe at the Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi, Kenya.
The CAF General Assembly is scheduled for October, while the awards gala will take place in December. Both events will bring together representatives from CAF’s 54 member associations, officials from the six zonal unions and senior football administrators from across the continent.
Nigeria’s selection follows Morocco’s recent run of three consecutive CAF Awards, underscoring the federation’s intent to rotate marquee events among its member nations. Hosting the awards and the congress offers Nigeria an opportunity to showcase its football infrastructure ahead of future continental tournaments and to reinforce its growing role in African sports governance.
The forthcoming assembly will serve as a platform for member associations to discuss governance, competition calendars and development programmes. In parallel, the awards ceremony will honour the continent’s top players, coaches and officials, celebrating achievements from the previous season.
By securing both events, Nigeria aims to boost its international sporting profile and stimulate local economic activity through tourism and related services. The arrangements also align with CAF’s broader strategy of promoting African football’s visibility and fostering collaboration among its diverse membership.
Stakeholders now await detailed programmes and venue confirmations, with preparations expected to intensify in the months leading up to the October assembly and the December awards night.
