Lagos authorities have sealed off a Domino’s Pizza outlet at No. 38B Freedom Way, Lekki, after it was found discharging untreated sewage into public drains. The decision follows a resident’s complaint and an investigation by the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO), which confirmed that an over‑filled septic tank was releasing waste into the surrounding environment.
State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources Tokunbo Wahab announced the action on his official X account, noting that the illegal discharge created a noticeable nuisance, emitted foul odours and posed health risks to nearby residents. Wahab stressed that compliance with wastewater‑management regulations is mandatory for both property owners and commercial operators, and warned that violations will attract sanctions and possible prosecution under existing environmental statutes.
The commissioner also provided contact numbers—08022022397 and 07025332163—for the public to report similar infractions. The enforcement move is part of a broader Lagos State Government campaign to curb illegal sewage discharge, particularly in densely populated districts such as Lekki. Recent months have seen similar actions against estates, event centres and other restaurants that were found breaching environmental standards.
By targeting non‑compliant establishments, Lagos officials aim to protect public health, preserve water quality and maintain the city’s reputation as a livable urban centre. The sealed Domino’s outlet will remain closed pending remediation and verification that its wastewater system meets regulatory requirements. Further inspections of commercial premises are expected as the state continues its drive to enforce proper waste‑management practices across Lagos.
