The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company Plc (EEDC) has explained that the current power outage in parts of the South‑East is caused by industrial action undertaken by an organised labour union in Imo State. The strike forced the shutdown of EEDC’s source of supply, leaving the company without electricity to distribute.
In a statement signed by Head of Corporate Communications Emeka Ezeh on Saturday, EEDC warned that customers in the affected communities should protect electricity infrastructure from vandals who might exploit the situation to damage equipment.
The statement read: “The EEDC wishes to inform its esteemed customers that the loss of supply currently being experienced is a result of the industrial action by the organised labour union in Imo State. This led to the shutting down of our source of supply, leaving us with no energy to distribute. As a result, all our customers in Imo State are without electricity supply. We understand the inconvenience this situation causes our customers, and we are hopeful that the issue will be resolved as quickly as possible so we can restore supply. We therefore appeal to our customers to be vigilant and ensure the electricity infrastructure serving them is not attacked by vandals who might take advantage of the situation to vandalise electricity facilities.”
