The Nasarawa West senatorial candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in the February 25 presidential and National Assembly elections, Wakili Kabiru‑Muhammad, has taken the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to the Election Tribunal over the alleged omission of his party’s logo from the ballot papers. Speaking to reporters shortly after filing his petition on Saturday in Lafia, Kabiru‑Muhammad said that INEC failed to capture the NNPP logo clearly on the ballots.
In the case, INEC and Ahmed Aliyu‑Wadada of the Social Democratic Party (SDP)—who was announced the winner—are named as the first and second defendants, respectively. Kabiru‑Muhammad argued that the omission violated the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022 and the 1999 Constitution, and he urged the tribunal to nullify the election.
The petitioner explained that he approached the tribunal because of numerous abnormalities observed during the election. He called on his supporters to remain calm, law‑abiding, and to await the tribunal’s judgment. Aliyu‑Wadada of the SDP received 96,488 votes, while the All Progressive Congress candidate, Shehu Tukur, garnered 47,717 votes.
