Taraba LP denies endorsing PDP gov candidate

The Taraba State chapter of the Labour Party has denied the purported endorsement of the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Col. Kefas Agbu (retd), by one Evangelist Philip Munlip on behalf of the party.

Chairperson of the party in the state, Mrs. Esther Gulmu, in a media briefing on Sunday in Jalingo, said the action of Mr. Munlip was borne out of mischief with the aim of tarnishing the image of the party in the state.

It was gathered that Evangelist Mulip, who contested the governorship ticket of the party against Senator Joel Ikenya, the LP governorship candidate in the state, had on Wednesday addressed a press conference where he endorsed the PDP governorship candidate.

But Mrs Gulmu said Munlip was not the party’s governorship candidate and lacked the moral and legal rights to endorse anybody on behalf of the party in the state.

“Our governorship candidate is senator Joel Ikenya and not Evang. Philip Mulip. We have not endorsed any candidate. We are still in the race.

“The action of Mulip is condemnable and must be disregarded by all. Munlip is desperate and wants to tarnish the good image of our party and her candidates.

“We wish to urge the good people of Taraba state to disregard the purported endorsement and keep faith and full support for Labour party to take over Taraba,” she said.

In his reaction, governorship candidate of the party in the state, Ikenya assured the people of the state that he would develop the state if elected next Saturday and called on the people to vote massively for the LP for the good of the state.
