Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, a National Assembly member re‑elected in the February 25 National Assembly election, said the 10th Senate, slated for inauguration in June, will play a complementary role in realizing President‑elect Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s youth programmes. Bamidele expressed delight that Tinubu’s proposal to allocate 25 percent of the annual budget to youth intervention programmes and an education loan will help tackle joblessness and poverty among Nigeria’s productive population.

Speaking in Ado Ekiti on Saturday, the senator from Ekiti Central Senatorial District addressed an empowerment training he organised for 700 trainees. The program aimed to expose participants to entrepreneurial ventures and vocational skills development in the agricultural value chain, aquaculture, and post‑harvest loss control. Represented by his Senior Legislative Aide, Bunmi Oguntuase, Bamidele noted that the beneficiaries—drawn from the five local governments in the district—were carefully selected and trained according to their areas of interest.

“The President‑elect promised that 25 percent of our budgetary estimate would be allotted to the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development to undertake all manner of intervention programmes that will empower our youth and make them relevant,” Bamidele said. “Most importantly, he pledged to establish an education loan so students can access funds to complete their education. This focus will mitigate school dropouts and improve literacy levels.”

He added, “I am convinced that the 10th Senate, when inaugurated, will key into this lofty and soul‑lifting agenda. Focusing on our youth is an issue staring all of us in the face, and I am confident the Tinubu agenda will address it adequately.” The APC chieftain assured his constituents that they would not regret re‑electing him, promising to accelerate development in the area by supporting Tinubu’s and Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s youth‑driven policies at both federal and state levels.
