Ice Prince Breaks Silence: Why He Performed at APC Convention Amid Backlash

Nigerian hip-hop star Ice Prince Zamani has finally addressed the storm of criticism that erupted after his performance at the All Progressives Congress (APC) national convention in 2026. The rapper, known for hits like “Oleku,” faced a fierce online backlash, with many accusing him of endorsing a political party while the country grapples with economic hardship and insecurity.

In a candid interview on the Black Box podcast, Ice Prince clarified that his decision to take the stage was not a political statement but a personal one. “It was about family,” he explained, revealing that his uncle holds a senior position within the APC. “I wasn’t there to campaign or make a political point. It was a gesture of respect for my uncle. He asked, and I couldn’t say no.”

The rapper’s appearance at the convention had sparked heated debate on social media, with critics arguing that artists should use their platforms to demand accountability from leaders rather than entertain at partisan events. But Ice Prince stood his ground, emphasizing that his performance was a private matter, not an endorsement of any party’s policies.

This isn’t the first time Ice Prince has made headlines for personal revelations. In a separate podcast session at Nevon HQ, the award-winning artist opened up about his past struggles with cannabis, admitting he spent a staggering amount on the substance over six years. “When I looked at the numbers, it hit me hard,” he said. “I realized I was throwing away money that could have built something real. That was the wake-up call I needed to quit.”

The rapper also shared insights into his recent fitness transformation, crediting producer Chopsticks for inspiring him to take his health seriously. “We had a conversation in early 2025, and he basically told me, ‘You’re not taking care of yourself.’ That day, I started my weight-loss journey,” Ice Prince recalled. He adopted intermittent fasting, cut out sugar and alcohol, and embraced a strict exercise routine, including daily walks. “I don’t eat breakfast anymore—I learned that food isn’t about timing, it’s about fuel,” he added, sparking mixed reactions from fans online.

Ice Prince’s journey from controversy to self-improvement underscores a broader narrative of growth. As he navigates public scrutiny, he remains focused on family, health, and his music. “People will judge, but I know why I did what I did,” he said. “At the end of the day, I’m just trying to be a better version of myself.”
