Twin Sons Torn From Mother in Ibadan Abduction; Ex-Minister’s Sister Targeted

Gunmen abduct former Nigerian Power Minister Adelabu's sister and her twin sons in Ibadan. Security forces launch rescue operation as family appeals for calm.

Gunmen

A morning school run turned into a nightmare in Ibadan on Wednesday, when armed gunmen snatched a middle-aged woman and her twin sons from the streets of the Elewura area, Challenge. The victims are the younger sister and nephews of former Power Minister Chief Adebayo Adelabu, plunging the family into a desperate wait.

The abduction struck around 7:30 a.m. as Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul drove her 12-year-old sons, Peter and Paul, to school. According to a statement from Adelabu’s media aide, Femi Awogboro, the attackers forced the trio from their vehicle and vanished.

Security forces have been alerted and are pursuing leads, the family confirmed. “We are deeply distressed but remain hopeful in the capacity of the security agencies to secure their safe release,” the statement read, appealing for calm and cautioning against spreading unverified details that could hinder the operation.

This brazen kidnapping comes less than three weeks after 47 students and teachers were abducted in Ahoro Esiele, Oriire Local Government Area, Oyo State. Police had not issued an official response by press time.
