More than 5,000 residents in Ibadan, Oyo State, have received critical malaria prevention support through a community outreach spearheaded by AIICO Insurance Plc, in partnership with HACEY. The initiative targeted four Primary Health Centres in Ibadan North Local Government Area, focusing on pregnant women and nursing mothers who are most vulnerable to the disease.
Nigeria accounts for nearly a quarter of all global malaria cases, a public health crisis that demands more than just talk, said Segun Olalandu, Head of Marketing and Communication at AIICO. The company’s response: distributing 600 long-lasting insecticidal nets and conducting structured health education sessions to promote prevention, early diagnosis, and treatment.
“Malaria has continued to pose a significant threat to maternal and child health in Nigeria, and addressing it requires more than awareness. It requires deliberate, sustained action at the community level,” said Abimbola Shobanjo, AIICO’s Manager of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability. “At AIICO, we see social impact as a core part of our responsibility, not an add-on.”
The outreach is part of AIICO’s broader commitment to improving public health outcomes and advancing sustainable community development. By equipping vulnerable populations with both knowledge and tools, the company aims to drive lasting change in high-risk communities.
