Governor Sheriff Oborevwori cut the ribbon on three newly finished roads in Ndokwa West Local Government Area on Wednesday, a combined 18 kilometers of asphalt that he says will supercharge trade and rural life across the Ndokwa nation. The projects include the 4.5-kilometer Obi-Ibabu/Ibabu Road in Onicha-Ukwuani, the first phase of the five-kilometer Utagba-Uno/Ndemili Road, and the 8.4-kilometer Etua-Ukpo/Etua-Etiti/Etua-Oliogo Road.
Speaking at the ceremony in Utagba-Uno, Oborevwori thanked the community for braving the rain to welcome him. He called the roads a milestone in his administration’s push to bring development directly to people’s doorsteps. “These are not just roads; they are lifelines for trade, commerce, and our rural renewal program,” he said.
But the governor wasn’t all praise. He voiced sharp frustration over delays on the Inam-Abbi Access Road and the Utagba-Uno-Eweshi Road projects, which were supposed to be inaugurated alongside the others. He warned that his government will not tolerate unnecessary stalling and directed the Ministry of Works to finish both before year’s end.
Oborevwori also addressed the persistent power outages plaguing Ndokwa communities. He revealed that the state has approved rehab work on electricity infrastructure, but some completed facilities were vandalized. He urged locals to guard public assets and promised swift action to end the blackouts.
The governor further directed the Commissioner for Works to start preparations for the second phase of the Utagba-Uno/Ndemili Road. He credited the visible infrastructure across Delta to careful budgeting and a focus on citizen welfare.
Deputy Governor Sir Monday Onyeme called the roads a dream come true for the Ndokwa people. Commissioner for Works Charles Aniagwu noted that the projects have transformed once-inaccessible communities, boosting transport and economic activity.
Local leaders piled on praise. Ndokwa West Council Chairman Chief Obi Nzete highlighted investments in roads, education, healthcare, and security. Utagba-Uno community President-General Barr. Kenneth Oseji said the new road linking seven villages will drive growth. Ndokwa Neku Union’s Comrade Amaechi Asugwuni urged politicians to prioritize legacy projects that change lives.
Oborevwori closed by reaffirming Delta State’s backing for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid, saying the state will keep aligning with policies that push national progress.
